Our Classes

  • Overview

    Following are the types of classes that Ignite offers, accommodating the beginner, the advanced and all dancers in between. If you are unsure about which dance class is best for your student, please contact the studio or make a comment on your dance class registration form. The studio director will provide you with recommendations.

    Most dancers will start in a class with other dancers their own age, but prior experience and ability level is also considered to ensure that your dancer is challenged, but not overwhelmed. Once a student is taking classes at the studio, the director will assess and advance each student based on his or her own development.

  • Parent and Me

    Parent and Me classes are a great way to introduce small children (18 months - 2.5 years) to the world of dance in a friendly and comfortable environment. This 30-minute dance class focuses on movement activities, music and creative expression that result in a special experience for parent and child.

  • Tiny Tots/Pre-School (Recital)

    This popular combination class is designed for students to express their individuality through the art of dance. The ballet/tap class introduces young students to ballet, tap, and basic tumbling skills through imagination activities, creative movement games and singing.

  • Beginner Combination Classes (Recital)

    This 1 ½ hour Beginner Combination Class is designed for 5-8 year-old students. Dance instruction focuses on mastering combinations and vocabulary of basic ballet, jazz and tap steps. Dancers improve stamina, core skills, technique and rhythm.

  • Intermediate/Advance Combination Classes (Recital)

    As a student’s skills progress, he/she will move through the intermediate-level dance classes. Students at this level limit their instruction in class to jazz and lyrical movements, with increasing levels of difficulty. Other subject areas are taught in separate classes, such as ballet, tap, hip hop and musical theater.

  • Pre-Teen/Teen Classes (Recital)

    Ignite offers dance lessons designed for the beginning pre-teen dancer who has never had a class or is returning to dance after a long break. Instructors teach beginner steps and combinations in ballet, jazz and tap.

    Ages 11 and up.

  • Ballet (Recital)

    This class will focus on ballet terminology and technique through the execution of barre work, center and across the floor exercises. Your student will have a clear understanding of body alignment, movement quality, carriage of upper body, and flexibility.

  • Tap (Recital)

    Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement.

  • Hip Hop (Recital)

    Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the basic steps in the latest fads in West Coast Street Dancing and music video moves! Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.

    Tiny Tots Tumbling is open to students ages 2-4.5.

  • Musical Theater (Recital)

    A class designed to train students in the skills required to be effective Broadway theater performers. Singing, vocal performance, acting and choreography are all included in the class.

  • Acro/Tumbling (Recital)

    Acro and Tumbling are centered on fundamental acrobatic and tumbling technique to increase flexibility, strength, balance, coordination, endurance, timing, body awareness, self-discipline, and confidence.

    Three levels of classes are offered to focus on flexibility, control and strength for children 5 and older.

    *Tiny Tots Tumbling is open to students ages 2-4.5.

  • Contemporary (Recital)

    Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

  • Cheer/Pom (Recital)

    The class focuses on teaching body lines, formations, motions, cheerleading jumps, and form. A sharp and precise form of cheerleading-type motion with influences of hip-hop and jazz techniques. Students will learn combinations and cheers/chants throughout the year.

  • Jumps, Leaps and Turns (JLT)

    Jumps, Leaps and Turns gives extra attention to improving technique in these areas. This class will focus on the proper execution of basic-advanced leaps and turns and will include leap combinations and turn sequences.

  • Technique

    Technique classes are based in ballet and jazz fundamentals. They focus on awareness, control and correct body placement. These classes aid to dancers ability to execute skills learned in their other classes. They are offered in a variety of levels for all different ages.

  • Stretch and Flex

    A workout class that is a combination of speed and strength. This is a workout class that will build muscle and strength while improving your cardio capacity and athletic performance. Conditioning allows dancers the opportunity to strengthen their bodies to compliment their technical and stylistic dance training and prevent injuries.

  • Combos

    This is a fun class where students will learn combinations in various styles of dance. Students will also work on improvisation during this class.

  • Sparktacular (Recital)

    In this class students will learn and perfect basic skills in various genres ranging from creative movement, ballet, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and depending on each class needs, tap. This is a class geared to those students with special needs and is sensory friendly.

  • Adult Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop

    Ignite offers adult classes of all experience levels in ballet. tap, jazz and hip hop. The class also can be utilized as a terrific exercise program for adults. Ages 19 and above.

  • Zumba

    Everybody and every body! Each Zumba® class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on. A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class. We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise! Ages 19 and above.

  • Barre and Yoga

    Barre combines movements from ballet, yoga and Pilates with low weights and high repetition for a full-body workout.

    Everyone starts somewhere when it comes to yoga. Maybe you’re brand new or are looking for a way to ease back into your practice. This class will develop your strength, flexibility, comfort level, and stamina as you challenge your body and mind. Instructors will skillfully guide the class through a full-body experience, complete with breath work.

  • Comp Team (Recital)

    The Ignite Competition Team provides team members with a chance to hone their performing skills while acquiring self-confidence, a strong work ethic, and superior dance technique, learning cooperation and responsibility as they work with teammates and choreographers to bring well-rehearsed and entertaining dance numbers to the stage.

    Ignite School of Dance auditions dancers ranging in ages from 4 to 19 years to be a part of an amazing team of people with an extraordinary love for dance and acrobatics!

    Throughout the course of the year the team will perform at many community and charity events and performing arts competitions.

    We understand that students have various levels of time to commit to the dance team, years of dance experience and outside activities. Ignite recognizes this and is proud to offer two different competition tracks to our students.
